Gravy Ingredients:

  • 6 oz mushrooms, sliced
  • 1/2 onion, sliced
  • 1 1/2 cups beef broth (or low sodium)
  • 1 packet (1 oz) brown gravy mix
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 2 tbsp chopped fresh parsley
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 4 tbsp water

Beef Patties:

  • 1 1/2 lbs lean ground beef
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1/4 cup minced onion
  • 1/3 cup Panko breadcrumbs
  • 3 tbsp milk
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Base:
    • Place mushrooms and onions at the bottom of the slow cooker.
  2. Form and Sear Patties:
    • In a bowl, combine the beef patty ingredients and shape them into six patties.
    • Brown each patty over medium-high heat for about 3 minutes per side.
  3. Layer the Ingredients:
    • Place the browned patties over the mushrooms and onions in the slow cooker.
  4. Make the Gravy:
    • In a separate bowl, mix the beef broth, gravy mix, ketchup, Dijon mustard, and parsley.
    • Pour the gravy mixture over the patties.
  5. Slow Cook:
    • Cover and cook on low for 5 hours.
  6. Thicken the Gravy:
    • After cooking, remove the patties and set them aside.
    • Turn the slow cooker to high. Combine cornstarch and water, then stir it into the broth to thicken.
    • Add the patties back into the sauce to coat.
  7. Serve:
    • Serve the Salisbury Steak over mashed potatoes, rice, or pasta.
